World population hits 8 billion on 15 November 2022

• The global population is projected to reach 8 billion on 15 November 2022, and India is projected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country in 2023, according to World Population Prospects 2022, released today on World Population Day.
• Global population doubles since 1974, It took all of human history until 1803 to reach the first billion in population. The next billion took 124 years.
• It took 30 years to reach the global population from 2 to 3 billion
• From 3 to 4 billion it took 14 years
• From 4 to 5 billion it took 13 years
• From 5 to 6 billion it took 12 years
• Over the last 10 years, even though world population is increasing in absolute terms, the population growth is falling.
