Success comes with mock tests... CAT 2017 Topper – Sai Praneeth Reddy

Got hundred percentile with complete command on math

More than 2 lakh candidates awaited CAT 2017 results. An IITian from Madras waved path to fulfill his dream of entering IIM by scoring 100 percentile. He is none other than Sai Praneeth Reddy of Andhra Pradesh. Having interest in math from childhood, made him to achieve this feat. Here is his success story.

I am from Brahmasamudram village of Kanikal mandal in Anantapuram district. My father Chenna Reddy Surendranath Reddy is a business man and mother Sandhya Reddy is a home maker. Almost my schooling was done in Nellore. I completed my intermediate in Hyderabad. Currently I am a final year student of Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Madras.

In the first attempt
I decided to appear for CAT, when I was in second year of my engineering. In the third year, I started taking coaching. Having coaching classes only on Saturdays, I didn’t face any difficulty academically. Applied for CAT 2017 and got 100 percentile in the first attempt itself.

If I get seat in those IIMs only
Our (Indian Institutes of Management) IIMs are famous for management studies. I want to join in IIM Ahmedabad, which is the top most in the country. At IIM-A, admission process is entirely different. They will consider various aspects for admission. Next to IIMA, I prefer IIM-Bangalore or IIM Kolkata. If I won’t get seat in these institutes I will join in job and gain experience and try to join in IIMs or pursue MBA abroad. I have a job offer in hand from Cisco Systems Company of 20 lakhs package.

I concentrated on English
I started serious preparation prior a month to exam. I love math from childhood. I am confident that I can solve any kind of problem. I was very good with quantitative and DILR sections. I concentrated more on English in the last one month. These are the basic things I followed during preparation and it did pay well.

Success comes with mock tests
For competitive exams like CAT, the only success mantra is practice. Have to write mock tests and review them. This time English and quantitative ability sections are little bit easy. The most difficult part is logical reasoning. Time management is very important. I didn’t have sufficient time for English and Logical Reasoning. I didn’t attempt 3 questions in English and 4 in Logical reasoning. Time Management will be known from repeated mock tests. I used to write mock test from 9 am to 12 noon without fail and this was proved very crucial in cracking the test.

For management skills
"I realized that I can excel in the technical field but there are areas where you have to get your work done by others. For which you need to have team management skills and there is no other better place to learn those skills than IIM in India."

Advice for CAT 2018 aspirants:
"Learning from mistakes, is the main thing that will help anyone get better in life. Don't miss AIMCATs. For English, start reading novels and articles, it helps a lot. For quantitative ability section, be strong with basics."
