The Common Admission Test- The admission test into country's premier management institutes- IIMs, schedule is released. IIM -Kolkata announced that the CAT is being conducted on November 25, 2018." By analyzing, observing the previous year's results, we take the decision to make changes accordingly" says CAT- 2018, convener, Professor Sumantha Basu.
Basu explained various things, exclusively with Sakshi, about the test.
The purpose of announcing the exam date of CAT 2018, earlier to notification is, to make the candidates aware of the preparation. We are planning to release, the detailed schedule of the exam, possibly in the second or third week of August.
Changes
It is true, that there will be changes in this year’s exam. For this, we want to analyze the previous year’s results. We analyze the talent of the candidates, subject-wise and their performance in a whole. We want to consider even the selected candidates’ academic background. After the analysis, we will get a clear idea whether to make changes in CAT 2018, or not.
Expert Committee
The expert committee will be formed to analyze the changes to be taken, exam pattern, etc. of CAT 2018. The committee will tell the final decision. The exam pattern will be decided after considering their decision. This exercise will be completed soon. This time, I can assure that the management exam will be, in such a way, that the candidates with all the eligible requirements will alone be selected.
For all academic backgrounds
It is not the apt to opine that, the management exam is for the candidates of Engineering or Mathematics background alone. It may be of the reason that the toppers are all from those backgrounds. Our aim is to design, the exam so as to be student- friendly of all academic backgrounds. This will pave the way, that there will be candidates of all categories, in IIMs hereafter. In fact, if we analyze the academic backgrounds of the admitted candidates, the arts, commerce and non-technical background candidates, account to 40 percent in the total admissions.
Level playing field
IIMs are taking measures to be committed for level playing field regarding admissions. Regarding admissions, the IIMs are not confined to CAT score alone. They are considering gender, culture, geographical, academic diversities and giving weightage to them. This resulted in, various category candidates to become part of IIMs, these days.
Inhibitions
Even though the IIMs are taking every care to be all category friendly, with the inhibitions and unnecessary fear, even talented candidates are hesitating to apply for the management courses. This situation, is also one of the reasons of Engineering, mathematic background candidates’ success rate. But, with proper strategy and awareness, candidates of any academic background can excel in the exam.
Three important qualities
To get good scores in CAT, candidates should have three important qualities. With hard work, dedication and commitment, one can clear the exam with ease. Students should not think that they achieved the goal by getting admission in IIMs. But they have to strive hard continuously to emerge as management experts. For this they should dedicate themselves from the day one of admission.
