Scientific researches… Success with passion

“More and more opportunities are emerging in the field of Science. At the same time shortage of experts is also there. One can, not only invent, discover the things with their talent in the field of Science but also, can acquire abundant knowledge …” says Honeywell Technology Solutions, India, vice-president- Akshay Bellare.
He is graduated in Chemical Engineering from IIT- Madras, completed PhD from West Virginia University. He has worked in R &D departments of various institutes at national and international level. He advises youth to take the path of scientific research for better future, in his Guest Column.

STEM- Science is special
It is true, that there is a discussion going on, shortage of experts in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). It is opined that skills of students are to be honed to get more number of experts. Science is very important in STEM. In fact, science base is necessary for the remaining three areas of study. That’s why the shortage of science experts alone accounts to 30 % in the shortage of STEM experts. Demand for science experts is increasing day-by-day. At the same time, the skill-gap is becoming more problematic at the other end.

Awareness
The attitude of students about science courses is gradually changing. Measures are to be taken to increase the interest and passion for science in students from school level itself. Activity-based learning is very helpful for this. It helps to double the natural interest in them and make them to develop passion for science courses in the future.

Consistent future
There is a feeling, that it is very time taking to get higher career opportunities in the field of science. But if one gets consistency in this field, there won’t be any looking back. If you develop passion for science from school level and concentrate to achieve the desired goal, you can reach the destination by the age of just 27 years. Yes, there are more job opportunities after graduating in engineering. But, if you want to continue or upgrade the job profile, you should have higher education. But, once you complete the PhD in the science courses, there is n-number of opportunities awaiting you.

Demographic dividend
India has huge potential to compete with the world in the form a great weapon called, demographic dividend. India has numerous youth, aged between 14-25 years. If we make them to concentrate on science courses, we can do wonders in research and development, same as US, Canada and Japan. Youth of 25, 26 years of age are making wonders by establishing own companies. They are emerging as future hope with varied marketing techniques.

Excel with researches
If you want to excel and reach the heights in the field of science, you have to concentrate on research. You can invent, discover new things by research and can acquire knowledge in various areas. You can own the skills like, problem analysis, solution making, research orientation, practical approach etc. by research. Government started taking measures, initiatives to encourage research scholars. But if it is confined to premier institutes alone, there won’t be any use. Measures are to be taken to give the initiatives to all the institutes of all categories. Then the future scientists will emerge from all corners of the nation.

Passion is important
Students, who want to step into research areas, should have natural interest in the concerned subject. Then only, they can excel in the desired field. Otherwise, it would be difficult to reach the destination. Students those who have real interest are alone advised to take this field as their career. The mind-set of parents needs to be changed. They have to encourage their children to study on their own interest, rather than insisting them for engineering or medical courses. At the same time, students also should enquire the better career opportunities in their desired field. They have to strive hard with concentration and dedication to achieve them.
