The need is to strengthen the citizens with greater powers like the RTI and social audit. There should be dedicated anti-corruption courts.
Corruption costs the country, world and the planet in multiple ways: welfare programmes leak; tax collections go down; corrupt corporate governance leaves many stakeholders deceived; environmental stability is eroded with catastrophic consequences.
Many laws are made and institutions are set up to defeat corruption- Indian penal Code, Criminal code, LokPal, RTI Act, Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, faceless tax collections since 2020, social audit, citizen’s charters etc. But the results are disappointing.
The reasons are –

The reasons are –
- the victims of corruption like the hundreds of millions of ordinary citizens are not vocal and strong
- Judicial system is slow
- Elections are costly and political parties collect huge funds from corporates that sets up crony capitalism
- Nepotism of the leadership
- Whistle blower protection is weak.
