Recruitment through the UPSC

The UPSC holds an all-India competitive examination, known as the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE), twice a year. University graduates are eligible to appear in the examination. Successful candidates join the respective training academies, viz., the Indian Military Academy (IMA) for the Army, the Naval Academy for the Navy and the Air Force Academy for the Air Force.

Flying Branch
You are trained as a Fighter pilot or a Helicopter pilot or a Transport pilot and are part of various peace and wartime missions. The various modes of entry into the Flying Branch are:
The following are the three modes of entry for Graduates/ Engineers to join the Flying branch:
- CDSE (Combined Defence Services Examination) (for men only)
- NCC special entry (for men only)
- SSC (Short Service Commission ) Entry( For Men And Women)
- Aeronautical Engineering Branch: You would be incharge of some of the most sophisticated equipment in the world by joining one of the sub branches based on your qualification. Entry into this branch is via 2 options -
- University Entry Scheme(UES) - For men only studying in Pre-Final year of B-tech/BE degree course
- Aeronautical Engineering Course - For both Men and Women.
Educational Qualification for Aeronautical Engineering Branch – Depending upon your stream of Engineering and subjects studied, you could join one of the sub branches of the Technical branch - Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) or Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) - Ground duty Branch: One can join in either Administration Branch as Air Traffic Controller or Fighter Controller or Logistics Branch
