Who was the inspiration behind your success?
My parents. Their interest in studies gave me the inspiration.
Can you tell us in detail how you faced the campus interview right from the written test to facing the interview board?
Written test mainly concentrated on efficiency and accuracy. Time is a main criterion along with how well we know the basics. It’s easy for most but a bit difficult for a few. Some companies have Group Discussion round as well. Proper preparation as to how to face it must be done. Trying GDs with friends would be helpful. Next comes the technical interview round where they test for our skills in the areas of our interest. If we are confident in 2-3 subjects along with good grip on C programming and data structures, it would be easy. The last round is the HR round where our communication skills are assessed. A little preparation would be helpful about generally asked questions. The interviews which I attended are a good experience for me.
What do you think that fetches the job in the Campus placement?
Grip on the subject, spontaneity, ability to think in more than one way for a solution, confidence.
How many offers did you get and what was your choice?
I got 2 good offers. FREESCALE and CAPITAL IQ. However, with my GATE score I’m now having second thoughts.
Which books and material did you refer for your preparation?
Just my text books which I have been studying till then. Didn’t refer any extra materials.
When did you start preparing for the placement?
From 3-2 sem onwards a bit slowly. As soon as I was done with 3-2 sem exams, took it more seriously.
What suggestion would you like to give for job aspirants?
Just be thorough with the basics. If you know how to apply whatever you learn then its more than enough. Be confident.
What parameters did you keep in mind while selecting a college or a branch?
Whether the college got good reputation or not. About the faculty of the college. Whether the department I’m planning to join is good in that college. About previous placements.
Branch is an important issue that decides the career of the student. How did you decide upon the branch selection?
Yes, it mainly depends upon the student’s interest. I’m more interested in computers since school days. And at the time of joining even my cousins and family friends suggested this branch for me.
What do you suggest to a student and why: A seat in a good college or a good branch in a normal college?
Both are of equal importance but if I have to choose one, then its better to go for a good college and compromise on the branch a bit. Because the name of the college will always play an important role in our profile lifelong. But going into a totally uninterested branch is not advisable. Some colleges even have the option to change branch after their 1st year depending on the student’s performance. Such facilities must be made use of.
Can you suggest the Engineering branches which are in demand with respect to the present job trend?
CSE, ECE, EEE are in highest demand now. Mechanical, civil, marine have jobs from core companies. (I answered this just as far as I know and heard from my friends... I am not sure)
What do you think is best for a fresh engineer - to pursue MBA or to opt for a job?
Doing MBA after having some job experience is more advisab le.
How do the students know if a particular branch interests him/her or not?
Talking to seniors and knowing which subjects come into those branches whether he has interest in those subjects.
What skills should students develop during their four years to have a bright career?
Communication skills, teamwork, organizational skills, grip in some interested subjects.
Keeping in view of the physical strain, which Engineering branches are suitable for girls?
Depends on interest of the student. CSE would be better.
How should an engineering student plan his four years of the study for a successful career?
1st year learning new things.
2nd year organizing events and improving various skills.
3rd year preparing for future plans and placements.
4th year placements and project work.
Your advice to the engineering aspirants
Studying is a must in all four years. Plan and utilize time. Enjoyment and studies must go hand in hand
