Women empowerment makes the country more productive!!
She attended a program as a chief guest organised in VIT-AP University to mark the occasion of International women's day today. Dr. S. V. Kota Reddy – Vice-Chancellor VIT-AP University, Varsha Viswanath Kasthuri, Director Srivarsha group and Alumna 2010-14 batch of VIT Vellore, Dr. Jagadish Chandra – Registrar, Dr. Anupama Deputy Director Student welfare of VIT-AP attended the program as the guests of honour. International Women's Day is the day observed every year on 8th march to recall the role of women in the society and the significance of the contribution of women to humanity.

Speaking on the occasion Daggubati Purandeswari, Former Union Minister and BJP National General Secretary said It is believed that women enjoyed equality and freedom of life in the Vedic period thousands of years ago. She could marry as per her wish and liberty to choose her life partner of her choice. But it is because of some foreign invaders their liberty has been subdued. Dr.B.R.Ambedkar envisioned women's equality and freedom in the constitution of India which prioritizes women and their rights. She said that empowering women makes the country more productive. She urged that the VIT-AP University must take initiatives to increase the women students strength from 32% in the university to 50% in the years to come. She requested the state and central governments to implement strict laws on prenatal detection of girl child.
Expressing his views on International Women’s Day Dr. S. V. Kota Reddy – Vice-Chancellor VIT-AP University said, we at the university give utmost importance to admissions for women. VIT-AP university in 2017 started with just 8% women students strength in the campus which has now grown to 32%. Interestingly we have the same 32% strength of women students strength and women faculty strength now. We hope the percentage will reach 50% on campus soon. He said.
