- The global health emergency that has now concluded was caused by a disease known as mpox. This name refers to the condition formerly known as monkeypox. The emergency, which began on an unspecified date, ended on May 11. It lasted for a considerable duration of 10 months, during which concerted efforts were made to combat the spread of the disease.
- The WHO first declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern in July 2022. This designation highlighted the severity of the disease and the need for a coordinated global response. The WHO reinforced this declaration in subsequent months, in November and February, underscoring the continued importance of combating the spread of mpox.
