Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan Form Joint Panel for Cheetah Project

  • In response to recent incidents of cheetahs from Madhya Pradesh straying into neighboring Rajasthan, a joint corridor management committee has been established between the two states. The committee’s primary focus will be on the conservation of these felines, ensuring the development of suitable habitats, and facilitating the future relocation of cheetahs from Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park (KNP) and Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary.
  • The committee was established in response to incidents where cheetahs from Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh strayed into Rajasthan, such as in May 2024 and December 2023.
  • The committee is tasked with identifying the ‘Cheetah Conservancy Landscape’ in the corridor to facilitate the safe movement of cheetahs between the states.
  • The committee will identify and designate areas suitable for the safe movement of cheetahs between Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh and forests in Rajasthan.
  • This includes establishing clear pathways to ensure minimal disturbance to the wildlife.

IFC Invests $400 Million in Bajaj Finance for Climate and Women Empowerment

  • The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has announced a strategic partnership with Bajaj Finance Ltd. (BFL), committing $400 million as part of a $1 billion fundraising initiative to enhance access to climate finance in India. This investment is aimed at expanding financing for electric vehicles (EVs), energy-efficient consumer goods (EECG), and women-owned micro-enterprises, aligning with India’s climate goals and promoting financial inclusion.
  • IFC’s $400 million loan will enable BFL to finance electric 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, and 4-wheelers, as well as energy-efficient consumer goods (EECG), fostering India’s shift toward a low-carbon future.

Zimbabwe Launches ZIMSAT-2 to Advance Space Programme

  • Zimbabwe has launched its second satellite, ZIMSAT-2, from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia, a major milestone in the country’s growing space programme. This satellite, equipped with a high-resolution multispectral camera, will aid in agriculture, resource exploration, environmental monitoring, and disaster management. It follows the successful launch of Zimbabwe’s first satellite, ZIMSAT-1, in November 2022, marking continued progress in space technology and innovation.
  • ZIMSAT-2, a low earth observation satellite, was launched aboard the Soyuz-2.1 spacecraft in a joint effort between Zimbabwe’s National Geo-Spatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA) and Southwest State University in Russia. The satellite is designed to deliver high-resolution data that will benefit sectors such as agriculture by monitoring crop health, predicting yields, and addressing nutrient deficiencies. Additionally, it will enhance resource mapping, environmental surveillance, and disaster management efforts across the nation.
