Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across the country; President, Vice President and PM extend greetings

  • Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety across the country on 3rd May. The festival marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan. 
  • The faithful dressed in their best offered Eid prayers in Eidgahs and grand mosques with full capacity first time after relaxation of restrictions imposed due to COVID pandemic.
  • In Delhi, main Eid congregations were held at Jama Masjid, Fatehpuri Masjid and Shahi Eidgah. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the occasion.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted people on the occasion.


Akshaya Tritiya festival is being celebrated all over the country

  • The festival of Akshaya Tritiya is being celebrated all over the country on 3rd May. People believe that the festival brings good luck and success.
  • On this day, people pray to deities to seek blessings and begin ventures to bring good fortune. Many people also buy gold on this day.
  • Parshuram Jayanti is also being celebrated across the country today. Lord Parshuram is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.  
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had wished people on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and Parshuram Jayanti.


​​​​​​​India and Germany sign joint declaration of Intent on Indo-German Hydrogen Task Force & Forest Landscape Restoration

  • India and Germany have signed joint declaration of Intent on Indo-German Hydrogen Task Force. The declaration was signed virtually between Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister R.K Singh and German Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Change Dr. Robert Habeck.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singh said, India has emerged as one of the world leaders in energy transition with the fastest rate of growth of renewable energy capacities in the world. He emphasized that India has huge ambitions for energy transition and it will add 500 GigaWatt of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. Mr Singh said, India is coming out with bids for green hydrogen. He invited German industry to come and compete in developing this ecosystem in India.
  • India, Germany signs joint declaration of Intent on Forest Landscape Restoration.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said, the joint declaration will provide the platform to further advance our partnership and support in areas like conservation and restoration, climate protection, and conservation of biodiversity. He said, this will also help in strengthening Indo-German Cooperation. 


International
We need to follow mantra of minimum government and maximum governance; PM Modi addresses Indian diaspora in Berlin

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that whenever the world faces a problem, India comes forward with a solution. He called it the strength of New India. Interacting with Indian community at Berlin in German, Mr. Modi said, there is a need to follow the mantra of minimum government and maximum governance.
  • He stressed that a country progresses when people of the nation proactively work towards developing it. He also stated that he is reducing burden of government and letting people give direction to new India.
  • The Prime Minister said, India has achieved a record-breaking 1.68 lakh crore rupees in GST collections for the month of April showing the strength of one nation one tax. He said India's vocal for local campaigns today is reminiscent of the Swadeshi Movement during the struggle for Independence.
  • Prime Minister Modi co-chaired a Business Round Table with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin. He invited the business leaders to invest in India’s youth. 
  • The event saw participation of high representatives from the Governments and selected CEOs from both sides. Discussions were held on topics ranging from climate cooperation, supply chains, research, and development.
  • Prime Minister will participate in the 2nd India-Nordic Summit being hosted by Denmark on 4th May. The Summit will focus on subjects like post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, innovation and technology, renewable energy, the evolving global security scenario, and India-Nordic cooperation in the Arctic region. 
  • On the last leg of the tour, the Prime Minister will briefly stopover in Paris and meet French President Emmanuel Macron. The visit to France will provide an opportunity to carry forward the high level of engagement between the two countries posts the French Presidential elections.

  • People fleeing besieged Mariupol described weeks of bombardments and deprivation as they arrived in Ukrainian-held territory, where officials and relief workers anxiously awaited the first group of civilians freed from a steel plant that is the last redoubt of Ukrainian fighters in the devastated port city.
  • Video posted online by Ukrainian forces showed elderly women and mothers with small children climbing over a steep pile of rubble from the sprawling Azovstal Steel Plant and eventually boarding a bus.
  • More than 100 civilians from the plant are expected to arrive in Zaporizhzhia, about 230 kilometers northwest of Mariupol, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
  • The evacuation, if successful, would represent rare progress in easing the human cost of the almost 10-week war, which has caused particular suffering in Mariupol. Previous attempts to open safe corridors out of the Sea of Azov city and other places have broken- down, with Ukrainian officials have repeatedly accused Russian forces of shooting and shelling along agreed-upon evacuation routes.

RBI Board approves nomination of Rajiv Ranjan as ex-officio member of Monetary Policy Committee

  • The 595th meeting of the Central Board of Directors of Reserve Bank of India was held.
  •  In a statement, RBI said the meeting was held through video conferencing under the Chairmanship of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das.
  • The Board approved the nomination of Executive Director Dr. Rajiv Ranjan as an ex-officio member of the Monetary Policy Committee. In addition to Deputy Governors and other Directors of the Central Board, Department of Economic Affairs, Secretary, Ajay Seth was also present in the meeting.

Harshada Sharad Garud first Indian to win gold medal at IWF Junior World Championships in Greece

  • In Weightlifting, Harshada Sharad Garud scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the IWF Junior World Championships at Heraklion in Greece.
  • She lifted 153-kilogram in the 45-kilogram weight category, which included 70 kilograms in Snatch and 83 kilograms in Clean and Jerk to finish on top of the podium. Garud left eight competitors behind as India bagged a medal on the opening day of the competition. 
  • Turkey's Bektas Cansu bagged the silver medal while Moldova's Teodora-Luminita Hincu won the bronze medal.
  • The other Indian in the same weight category, Anjali Patel finished fifth with a total effort of 148 kilograms which included 67 kilograms in snatch and 81 kilograms in clean and jerk.
  • Before Harshada, there are only two Indians to win a medal in IWF Junior World Championships. Mirabai Chanu had won a bronze in 2013 and Achinta Sheuli won a silver medal last year.
