Union Cabinet approves computerisation of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies with an overall budget outlay of 2516 crore rupees
- The Union Cabinet today approved the computerization of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies PACS. Briefing media in New Delhi today, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs CCEA has decided that 63 thousand functional PACS will be computerized with an overall budget outlay of two thousand five hundred 16 crore rupees. He said, the move will benefit 13 crore farmers.
- The PACS constitutes the lowest of the three-tier Short-term cooperative credit STCC in the country comprising approximately 13 crore farmers as its members, which is crucial for the development of the rural economy. PACS accounts for 41 per cent of the KCC( Kisan Credit Card) loans given by all entities in the Country and 95 per cent of these KCC loans through PACS are to the Small and Marginal farmers. The other two tiers, State Cooperative Banks and District Central Cooperative Banks have already been automated by the NABARD and brought on Common Banking Software.
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs CCEA also approved deregulation of the sale of domestically produced crude oil.

Iran, Argentina applies to join China and Russia in BRICS club
- Iran has submitted an application to become a member in the group of emerging economies known as the BRICS. Iran’s membership in the BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, “would result in added values for both sides,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson. Argentina had also applied to join the group. Argentina’s President Alberto Fernandez, currently in Europe, has in recent days reiterated his desire for Argentina to join BRICS.
- Russia has long been pushing to forge closer ties with Asia, South America and the Middle East, but it has intensified its efforts recently to weather sanctions imposed by Europe, the United States and other countries over its invasion on Ukraine.
Ben Silbermann: CEO of Pinterest, steps down from post
- Pinterest Inc. announced that Chief Executive Officer Ben Silbermann would step down and give Google Commerce Executive Bill Ready control of the social media site. With Ready‘s appointment, Silbermann‘s 12-year leadership of the company, which began in 2010 when he co-founded it, comes to an end.
- According to the business, he will now assume the newly created position of executive chairman and keep his board seat, while Ready will also join the board.

Government department will work with SBI, to establish an integrated pension platform
- In order to improve the quality of life for seniors, the State Bank of India (SBI) and the Department of Pension & Pensioners Welfare (DoPPW) of the Centre will work together to develop an integrated pension platform. SBI field employees were given sessions on pension policy reforms and digitization relating the disbursement of pensions to central government pensioners at a two-day banker’s awareness event in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
- It was determined that immediate action is required to link the DoPPW and SBI portals to develop an integrated pension portal in order to offer seamless services to pensioners

Vijay Amritraj honoured with Golden Achievement Award by ITF
- Indian tennis great, Vijay Amritraj has been named the 2021 recipient of the Golden Achievement Award by the International Tennis Hall of Fame and International Tennis Federation. In recognition of his outstanding impact on tennis as a player, promoter, and humanitarian, Amritraj was honoured in London.
- He is first recipient from India and he joins an esteemed list of tennis leaders who have received the honour, including Brian Tobin of Australia, Eiichi Kawatei of Japan, and Peachy Kellmeyer of the United States.
Utama won the Transylvania Trophy at the 21st TIFF Edition
- The winners of the 21st edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival were applauded at the Awards Ceremony, organised in the Unirii Square in Cluj-Napoca. Utama, the debut film of director Alejandro LoayzaGrisi, was chosen as this year’s big winner and awarded the 10,000 euro Transylvania Trophy.
- The Bolivian production also won over the TIFF audience, and was also awarded the Audience Award of 2,000 euro by MasterCard, as voted by the filmgoers at the Festival.

Olympic Champion Sydney McLaughlin breaks own 400m hurdles world record
- Olympic gold medallist, Sydney McLaughlin broke her own women’s 400 metres hurdles world record at the U.S. championships in Eugene, Oregon, winning the final in 51.41 seconds. The 22-year-old wrested the lead early and never gave the rest of the field a fighting chance, clinching her spot in the world championships in front of an adoring crowd. Britton Wilson finished 1.67 seconds behind with ShamierLittle taking third in 53.92.
- Sydney previously set the record with a 51.90-seconds performance at the U.S. Olympic trials a year ago, only to shatter that figure in Tokyo, collecting gold in 51.46.
Eoin Morgan: World Cup-winning captain, leaves international cricket
- Eoin Morgan has announced his immediate retirement from international cricket, according to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Morgan was the captain of England’s men’s white-ball team.
- The 35-year-old captained England Men to their first-ever ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup victory at Lord’s in 2019 throughout his 13-year international career with England. He also competed for England in the 2010 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, which was held in the Caribbean.

A noted lyricist, ChowallorKrishnakutty passes away
- In Kerala, noted lyricist, author and journalist, ChowalloorKrishnankutty passed away at a private Medical College Hospital in Thrissur. He was 86. A former Staff Artist with AIR, Krishnankutty penned over 3000 devotional songs and authored more than 200 books. He retired as an Assistant Editor with the MalayalaManorama daily.
- Krishnankutty is a recipient of the Kerala SangeethaNatakaAkademi and Kerala SahityaAkademi awards, Krishnankutty also served as the vice-chairman of the Kerala Kalamandalam.

India successfully tests high-speed expendable aerial target Abhyas off Odisha coast
- India has successfully flight-tested the indigenously developed high-speed expendable aerial target - ABHYAS, from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off the Odisha coast. The performance of the aircraft at low altitude, including sustained level and high maneuverability, was demonstrated during the test flight.
- The target aircraft was flown from a ground-based controller in a pre-designated low-altitude flight path, which was monitored by various tracking sensors deployed by the ITR, including radar and an electro-optical targeting system. ABHYAS is designed and developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and the armed forces for the successful flight trial of ABHYAS. He said that the development of this system will meet the requirements of aerial targets.
- DRDO chairman G. Satheesh Reddy lauded the efforts of the teams associated with the design, development and testing of the system.
