Schedule of recruitment process under Agnipath scheme will be announced shortly: Army Chief
- Army Chief General Manoj Pande said, the decision of the Government has been received to grant a one-time waiver, increasing the entry age of recruitment to 23 years, for the recruitment cycle of 2022.
- In a statement, General Pande said, this decision will provide an opportunity for many of our young, energetic and patriotic youth who, despite COVID pandemic, were preparing to join the recruitment rallies, which couldn't be completed in the last two years due to COVID restrictions.
- He said, the schedule of the recruitment process will be announced shortly. General Pande called upon youth to avail this opportunity for joining the Indian Army as Agniveers.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari proposes setting up of Innovation Bank for new ideas, research findings, technologies to focus on quality in infrastructure development
- Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed setting up of Innovation Bank for new ideas, research findings and technologies to focus on quality in infrastructure development.
- Addressing the inaugural function of the 222nd Mid-Term Council Meeting of the Indian Roads Congress through virtual mode in New Delhi today, he said, innovation should be the focus area for all engineers.
- He said IRC should develop a world-class state-of-the-art laboratory with the help of IITs and global institutions across the world to deal with the challenges of infrastructural development.
- Highlighting the achievements of his Ministry in road development, Mr. Gadkari said, in the last eight years, the length of National Highways has gone up by more than 50 per cent from 91 thousand kilometers in 2014 to about one lakh 47 thousand kilometers now.
- He said, government is dedicatedly working towards expanding the National Highway network to two lakh kilometers by 2025.

EU leaders vow support for Ukraine during Kyiv visit
- European leaders expressed their support for Ukraine while meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. The visiting leaders vowed to back Kyiv’s candidacy to eventually join the European Union.
- French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Premier Mario Draghi addressed a news conference jointly with Zelenskyy.
- Amid Ukrainian fears that Western resolve could wane, the visit carried heavy symbolism. France, Germany and Italy have all faced criticism for continuing to engage with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
- They also expressed concern about millions of tons of grain backed up in Black Sea ports by the conflict saying it could bring worldwide catastrophe.
14th BRICS Summit to be held in Beijing on June 23
- Chinese President Xi Jinping will host the 14th BRICS Summit in Beijing on 23rd of June. The summit will be held in virtual format under the theme of 'Foster High-quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development'. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying announced it.
- The announcement posted on Chinese Foreign Ministry website said, President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the BRICS Business Forum in virtual format on 22nd of June and deliver a keynote speech.
- China is the chair of the 14th BRICS Summit happening this year which assumes importance as this will be the first BRICS Summit after Russia-Ukraine war began and Russia is currently under severe economic sanction by the west led by the US.
- President Xi Jinping will also host the High-level Dialogue on Global Development in Beijing on 24th of June. The Dialogue will be held in virtual format under the theme of 'Foster a Global Development Partnership for the New Era to Jointly Implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development'.
- BRICS leaders and leaders of relevant emerging markets and developing countries will attend the event, the announcement said.
- China and Russia have also expressed their willingness to discuss the expansion of BRICS group which at present comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
- According to the joint statement released after the BRICS Foreign Ministers in May, they supported promoting discussions among BRICS members on the expansion process and they agreed to further clarify the guiding principles, the standards, criteria and procedures for this expansion process.

HS Prannoy enters the quarterfinals of Indonesian Open Super 1000
- In the Indonesian Open Badminton Tournament, India's H. S. Prannoy registered a streight set win against Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong and stormed into quarter-final round. He beat Angus Ng Ka Long by 21-11, 21-18.
- Prannoy defeated Lakshya Sen in the opening match.
- In women's doubles, Indian duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy was defeated by China’s top seed Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan by 21-16,21-13. In Men’s doubles, pair of Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun will take on China’s unseeded Liu Yu Chen and Ou Xuan Yi.
- India’s top shuttlers P. V. Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth exited in the first round.
