Ministry of Culture initiates Project PARI for the 46th World Heritage Committee Meeting

  • India has long been a vibrant centre of artistic expression, with its rich history of public art reflecting the country's cultural and spiritual diversity. From ancient rock-cut temples and intricate frescoes to grand public sculptures and vibrant street art, Bharat's landscapes have always been adorned with artistic marvels. Historically, art has been deeply intertwined with daily life, religious practices, and social customs, manifesting through various modalities such as dance, music, theatre, and visual arts.
  • Project PARI (Public Art of India), an initiative by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, being executed by Lalit Kala Akademi and National Gallery of Modern Art seeks to bring forth public art that draws inspiration from millennia of artistic heritage (lok kala/loksanskriti) while incorporating modern themes and techniques. These expressions underscore the intrinsic value that art holds in Indian society, serving as a testament to the nation's enduring commitment to creativity and artistic expression.
  • The first intervention under Project PARI is taking place in Delhi. It coincides with the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India between 21-31 July 2024.

SC Directs Centre To Frame Model Policy On Menstrual Leave By Holding Consultations With States & Other Stakeholders

  • The Supreme Court directed the Centre to frame a model policy on menstrual leave for women employees by holding consultations with states and other stakeholders.
  • A bench comprising Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J B Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra, today, disposed of the PIL seeking menstrual leave policy and directed the Ministry of Women and Child Development to hold stakeholder meetings to consider framing a policy on the same.
  • The bench said it is a policy-related issue and not an issue for the courts to look into. Moreover, a decision from the court on granting such leave to women may prove to be counterproductive and detrimental as employers may avoid employing them. The top court further said that this direction will not stand in the way of the state government making independent decisions on the policy for menstrual leave.

  • Masoud Pezeshkian, a seasoned lawmaker and cardiac surgeon, has emerged victorious in Iran’s presidential election, defeating hardliner Saeed Jalili. Known for his support of both domestic and international reforms, Pezeshkian’s presidency signals a shift towards more pragmatic and reformist policies.
  • India and Iran have historically enjoyed strong economic ties, which are likely to deepen under Pezeshkian’s presidency. Key projects include the strategic Chabahar Port, where India has already invested significantly. This port is crucial for trade with Afghanistan and Central Asia, bypassing Pakistan. India has pledged $120 million for the development of the Shahid-Beheshti Port terminal and offered a $250 million credit line for infrastructure projects in Iran. Additionally, Iran remains a key source of crude oil for India, and increased exports from Iran could provide India with a reliable and cheaper source of oil amid Western sanctions
