Padma Awards 2022

  • The Padma Awards 2022 is to be conferred to vaccine makers to semiconductor market rulers.
  • This time, the Padma awards are being presented to a diversified list of recipients. Around 128 people are to receive the award in 2022. The awards will be presented by President Ram Nath Kovind at RashtrapatiBhawan.
  • In 2022, the President Ram Nath Kovind approved 107 Padmashri awards, 17 Padmabhushan and Padma vibhushan awards. In all 128 Padma awards.
  • Of this one Padma award is a duo case. In duo cases, the award is considered as one. This time 34 recipients are women. Also, there are ten foreigners or NRI or OCI in the list. 13 are posthumous awardees.

Padma Vibhushan

  • The late CDS, Bipin Rawat and Kalyan Singh are to be presented with Padma Vibhushan posthumously.

Padma Bhushan

  • The former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is presented with Padma Bhushan. But Buddhadeb is to decline the award. He is a CPI (M) leader.
  • The congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad
  • Alphabet CEO SundarPichai
  • Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will also receive the award.
  • Gurmeet Bawa, the late folk singer of Punjab,
  • Rajiv Mehrishi, the union home secretaries are to be presented with Padma Bhushan.

Padma Shri

  • Sonu Nigam, the play back singer of Bollywood will receive Padma Shri.
  • A total of six sports persons are to receive the Padma awards 2022.ParalympianDevendra Jhajharia is to receive Padma Bhushan. Hockey player Vandana Katariya and Paralympians Pramod Bhagat, AvaniLekhara, Sumit Antilare to receive Padma Shri. Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist will also receive Padma Shri.
  • Vaccine makers: Cyrus Poonawala, the founder of SII (Serum Institute of India) will receive Padma Bhushan. He is the man behind the popular “COVISHIELD”. The chairman of Bharat Biotech Krishna Ella and the co-founder of Bharat Biotech Suchitra Ella will also receive Padma Bhushan.

Government notifies scheme to make drone certification simpler, faster and transparent

  • Government has notified drone certification scheme to make certification of drones simpler, faster and transparent.
  • Along with the liberalised drone rules, airspace map, the PLI scheme and the single window Digital Sky Platform, will help drone manufacturing industry in India. It said, this is another step in making India the drone hub of the world by 2030.
  • The Government has been working to establish a world-leading drone ecosystem in India, which will create the physical and digital infrastructure to support safe, efficient and secure access to the Indian airspace by millions of drones.
  • Drone technology is evolving on a daily basis with new improvement coming in rapid scale. The drones offer tremendous benefits to almost every sector of the economy, including agriculture, infrastructure, emergency response, transportation and geospatial mapping.
  •  Centre has formulated the Digital Sky Platform for registration and operation of drones with an all-digital process.
  • The users are required to complete a one-time registration for their drones, pilots and owners. For every flight that a user wishes to embark in a yellow or red zone, they can request a permission to fly online.

India, France sign MoU with scope for cooperation in health research

  • India and France have signed a MoU with a scope for cooperation in health research.
  • Science and Technology Ministry said, the MoU was signed between Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR and Institut Pasteur, France.
  • CSIR and Institut Pasteur will jointly research and focus on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and inherited disorders and enable delivery of effective and affordable healthcare solutions not only for the people of India and France but for the global good.
  • The MoU provides for developing potential scientific and technological cooperation and networking in advanced and emerging areas of Human Health.

Ukraine-Russia crisis: US rejects Russian demand to bar Ukraine from NATO

  • The US has rejected Russia's demand to bar Ukraine from NATO, amid warnings Russia might invade its neighbour.
  • Secretary of State Antony Blinken was giving Russia a formal response to its demands to resolve the Ukraine crisis.
  • Russia had issued a written list of its concerns about the expansion of the NATO military alliance and related security issues.
  • Among them was a demand for NATO to rule out the possibility of Ukraine and others ever joining the alliance.

US warns Belarus against assisting Russia invading Ukraine

  • The United States warned Belarus that its authoritarian government will also face reprisals if it assists ally Russia in invading neighbouring Ukraine.
  • They have made clear to Belarus that if it allows its territory to be used for an attack on Ukraine, it would face a swift and decisive response from the United States and its allies and partners.
  • If an invasion were to proceed from Belarus, if Russian troops were to permanently station on their territory, NATO will have to reassess its own force posture in the countries that border Belarus.
  •  The long time strongman of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, is an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
