  • Nitesh Kumar wins Innovation Award in UK
    Current AffairsNitesh Kumar Jangir won the 2019 Commonwealth Secretary-General's Innovation for Sustainable Development Award in London.

    He won the award for breathing support device (Saans) to tackle avoidable deaths of premature babies from respiratory distress syndrome. Saans is the world's first neonatal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device that can be powered in multiple ways.

  • Dr Gaurav Nigam, an educationist, pediatrician and author, honoured with 'Innovative Research Excellence Award 2019'
    Dr Gaurav Nigam conferred with 'Innovative Research Excellence Award 2019'

    The award was given by Lyonpo Ugyen Dorji, Minister for Labour and Human Resources of Bhutan at the Asian Leadership Summit

    The function is held at Thimphu, Bhutan.

    The event organized by the Global Leaders Foundation.

    He won this award for his excellence in school education of outstanding contribution towards the innovative development research activities in the field of school education in South Asian Region.

    He is the founder of iCare

    He is the author of the book titled 'Devil Inside My Mind'.

  • Malayalam film won in Shanghai
    Veyil Marangal (Trees Under the Sun), directed by Bijukumar Damodaran, won the award for ‘Outstanding Artistic Achievement’ at the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival.

    It became the first Indian film to win a major award at the festival.

    The film was one among the 3,964 entries submitted from 112 countries in the prestigious Golden Goblet Award competition.

  • Anupam Kher penned autobiography
    Bollywood actor Anupam Kher is coming out with his autobiography, Lessons Life Taught Me Unknowingly that is set to hit stands on August 5, 2019.

    It will be published by Penguin Random House.

    Kher, one of the most prolific actors in the Indian film industry, has over 530 films in several languages.

    He has won 2 National awards, 2 Filmfare awards and the Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan awards.

  • Suman Rao crowned the winner of Femina Miss India World 2019
    Current AffairsSuman Rao from Rajasthan won Femina Miss India World 2019 Title.

    The ceremony was held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.

    Shivani Jadhav, Chhattisgarh won Femina Miss Grand India 2019 title.

    Shreya Shanker, Bihar won Miss India United Continents 2019 title.

  • Awards for promotion of Yoga
    PM Narendra Modi announced the awards for the promotion and development of Yoga.

    Swami Rajarshi Muni, Ms. Antonietta Rozz, Bihar School of Yoga, and Japan Yoga Niketan are the recipients of the Prime Minister's Award for outstanding contribution for promotion and development of Yoga for the year 2019.

    The winners will be felicitated with a Trophy, Certificate and a Cash Award each.

  • DDS women bag UN award
    Current AffairsWomen members of Deccan Development Society (DDS) sanghams have bagged one of the most coveted UN awards — Equator Prize for 2019.

    DDS sanghams have made a significant contribution towards environment combating climate change, food and nutritional security.

    The US$10,000-prize was officially declared on World Environment Day on June 5.

  • Ministry for Information and Broadcasting instituted Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman (AYDMS)
    The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has instituted its first Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman (AYDMS). It was announced by the Minister Prakash Javadekar.

    The aim of the award is to acknowledge the positive role & responsibility of media in disseminating the outreach of Yoga in India and abroad.

    The award comprises of a special medal/plaque/trophy and a citation.

    Six juries will assess the contribution of Media in the popularising of Yoga. The duration of the coverage for AYDMS would be from 10th June to 25th June 2019.

    Announcement of the honors will be announced and Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman (AYDMS) ceremony in July 2019 (tentative date).

  • Amitav Ghosh to be honoured with Jnanpith Award 2018
    The Jnanpith award for the year 2018 will be given to the noted English writer Amitav Ghosh. Former Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi will present the award to him at a function in New Delhi.

    The award is given for outstanding contribution in literature.

  • Priyanka Chopra to be awarded by UNICEF
    UNICEF will honour Priyanka Chopra with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award at the Unicef Snowflake Ball in December 2019.

    The event will be held on December 3 in NewYork.

    Priyanka is a global Unicef Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights.

    promotes various causes such as environment, health and education, and women's rights and is particularly vocal about gender equality and feminism.

  • Former Indian President of India Pratibha Patil conferred the Orden Mexicana del Aguila Azteca award
    Current AffairsFormer Indian President Pratibha Patil has been conferred the "Orden Mexicana del Aguila Azteca" (Order of the Aztec Eagle), the highest civilian award of Mexico given to foreigners, on 1 June 2019.

    The Ambassador of Mexico to India, Melba Pria, conferred the award on Patil, who created history as this country's first woman President (2007-2012), at a special ceremony held in the MCCIA Bhavan, Pune.

  • Sunder Pichai, Nasdaq's Friedman to receive 2019 Global Leadership Award
    In United States, Google's India-born CEO Sundar Pichai and Nasdaq president Adena Friedman have been chosen for the prestigious Global Leadership Awards 2019 by business advocacy group USIBC in recognition of the two companies' contribution as the leading technology-driven platforms.

    The award by Washington-based US-India Business Council (USIBC) would be conferred upon Indian-American Pichai, 46, and Friedman, 50, during the next week's 'India Ideas Summit'.

    Given annually since 2007, the USIBC Global Leadership Awards recognise top corporate executives from the United States and India whose companies play a major role in catalysing growth in the US-India commercial corridor.

  • Tayari Jones wins literary award for her novel
    Tayari Jones won the Women's Prize for fiction on 5 June with An American Marriage, her story of a family torn apart by the US judicial system.

    Jones, a professor of English at Emory University in Atlanta, beat five other finalists including Anna Burns, winner of 2018's Booker Prize.

    An American Marriage is Jones' fourth novel, but the first to be published in Britain.
