The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the notification for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025. This year, 979 vacancies are available for aspiring candidates. Applications must be submitted online via the official UPSC website.

UPSC Civils Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:
- Applicants must hold a graduate degree from a recognized university.

Age Limit (as of August 1, 2025):
- Minimum: 21 years
- Maximum: 32 years
- Age relaxations apply as per government norms.

Number of Attempts:
- General candidates: 6 attempts
- OBC candidates: 9 attempts
- SC/ST candidates: Unlimited attempts (up to age limit)
Application Fee
- General/OBC candidates: ₹100
- Payment can be made through SBI branches via cash deposit or net banking.
- Female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates: Exempted from fee payment.
Examination Structure
The Civil Services Examination will be conducted in two stages:

Preliminary Examination (Objective Type):
- For shortlisting candidates for the Main Examination.

Main Examination (Written and Interview):
- For the final selection to various services and posts.
UPSC Preliminary Examination Details
The Preliminary Exam consists of two compulsory papers (200 marks each).
Paper I: (200 Marks)
Duration: 2 hours
Subjects:
- Current events of national and international importance.
- History of India and the Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
- Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change (non-specialized).
- General Science.
Paper II: (200 Marks)
Duration: 2 hours
Subjects:
- Comprehension.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
- Decision-making and problem-solving.
- General mental ability.
- Basic numeracy (Class X level), including data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, etc.).
Important Notes:
- Both papers will consist of objective-type questions (multiple-choice).
- General Studies Paper II is a qualifying paper; candidates must secure a minimum of 33% marks.
- The question papers will be available in Hindi and English.
- Negative marking is applicable for incorrect answers.
