Today is death anniversary of freedom fighter Gopal Krishna Gokhale
- Feb 19th is the death anniversary of freedom fighter Gopal Krishna Gokhale. He was a political leader and a social reformer during the Indian freedom struggle. He played a leading role in bringing about Morley-Minto Reforms in India.
- He was one of the first generations of Indians to receive a university education. Gokhale graduated from Mumbai Elphinstone College in 1884.
- Apart from being a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, he was also the founder of the Servants of India Society. Through these organizations, he campaigned for Indian self-rule and social reforms. He was also a mentor to Mahatma Gandhi and guided Bapu on understanding of India and the issues confronting common Indians.
