Kamala Das (1934-2009)

·    An Indian poet, novelist and short story writer.
·    Pen name - 'Madhavi Kutty'. 
·    Changed her name to 'Suraiya Begum' after embracing Islam. 
·    Nominated and shortlisted for Nobel Prize in 1984. 
·    She received "Sahitya Akademi Award" in 1985 and "Asian World Prize" in 2000 for her poetry.
