International 

Longest single mission aboard the ISS

  • Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub have set a new record for the longest single mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), surpassing the previous record of 370 days. They arrived on the ISS on September 15, 2023, via Soyuz MS-24 and will return on September 23, 2024, completing 374 days in space.

World Rhino Day

  • World Rhino Day is celebrated annually on September 22 to raise awareness about the conservation of all five rhino species. Since its inception in 2011, the day has been marked globally by rhino experts and advocates. The International Rhino Foundation uses this occasion to honor the five rhino species and recognize the efforts of those working to protect them.

International Day of Sign Languages

  • The UN General Assembly has declared September 23 as the International Day of Sign Languages to raise awareness about the importance of sign language in ensuring the full realization of the human rights of deaf individuals.

  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has signed an MoU with Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) to enhance food safety and foster bilateral cooperation in the sector.

World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES)

  • The Indian government will host the first-ever World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) from February 5 to 9, 2025. This global event aims to strengthen India's media and entertainment industry and expand its global impact, marking the first summit to cover the entire media and entertainment spectrum.

Science & Technology

  • ISRO, IN-SPACe, and NSIL have achieved a major milestone by signing 75 Technology Transfer Agreements (TTAs) with non-governmental entities (NGEs). On September 20, 2024, five TTAs were signed in Bengaluru with companies like Anabond Ltd., Salvo Industries Pvt. Ltd., Micropack Pvt. Ltd., and Astra Microwave Products Ltd. These agreements aim to enhance private sector participation in space technology, promoting commercial applications and growth in India’s space industry.

  • The Film Federation of India has announced Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars 2025. This marks a major achievement for the film and its creators, bringing it to the global cinema stage.

  • Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, will host the 25th edition of the prestigious International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards from March 7 to 9, 2025. The event will take place at the JECC Sitapura.

Guinness World Records

  • Megastar Chiranjeevi has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the most prolific actor and dancer in the Indian film industry. Over his 45-year career, he has performed 24,000 dance moves in 537 songs across 156 films.
