Fiber Technology Boom: 1 Lakh New Jobs on the Horizon

​​​​​​​Mumbai: The rapid expansion of India's digital infrastructure, fueled by 5G technology and the growing demand for high-speed internet, is set to create a significant number of job opportunities in the fiber technology sector.

According to P. Subburatnam, Chief Strategy Officer at TeamLease Services, around 1 lakh new jobs are expected to be created in the next five years in roles such as fiber installation, maintenance, and repair.

The Indian telecom market is projected to grow at a robust rate, with a significant focus on fiber-based connectivity. India's extensive fiber optic network, which now spans over 700,000 kilometers, will continue to expand, creating new job opportunities.

High Demand for Skilled Professionals:

  • Fiber Technicians: The demand for skilled fiber technicians is expected to skyrocket as telecom companies and government initiatives drive the expansion of fiber infrastructure.
  • Engineers and Technicians: Positions such as fiber engineers, installation and repair technicians, and field technicians will be in high demand.

Challenges and Opportunities:

While the fiber technology sector offers promising career prospects, it also faces challenges such as high attrition rates due to long working hours and slow wage growth.
