VIT-AP University's Grand Celebration of the 56th National Library Week

Amaravati November 21, 2023: VIT-AP University hosted a program on the occasion of 56th National Library Week celebration in the campus. Prof. Padmini, a retired faculty member from the Department of Library and Information Science and former Principal of S V University College of Arts, Tirupati, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a prayer song.

On this auspicious occasion Dr. Padmini spoke about the Importance of Libraries during the freedom struggle for free India and the libraries played a key role in motivating people towards Indian independence.

She stressed the importance of improving reading habits among people and now a days the deterioration of reading habits due to influence of electronic and digital resources and also she has given some inputs to the research scholars and guides on research from selection of the right topic to the completion of their research which is supporting nation building.

While speaking Dr. S V Kota Reddy, Vice Chancellor explained the role of VIT-AP university library in higher education towards sustainable development, growth of the national research output and the steps are being taken to provide world class resources to their users. And also he stressed the emerging role of their university in state and national level rankings through NIRF.

University Librarian Dr. Ch. Veeranjaneyulu spoke on the various print and e-journals subscriptions like IEEE-IEL, Elsevier Science Direct, Springer, Web of Science, Bentham Science etc. and various e-books available in the library for different disciplines in the university. 

At last Dr. Vinith Saroha a customer consultant has been invited from Elsevier Science Direct for orientation to the students, research Scholars and faculty members on its e-resources in terms of e-books, e-journals and e-databases through literature survey and she presented how VITians are accessing effectively for their teaching learning. Students, research scholars, faculty members, HoDs and Deans and other staff members attended the programme and finally it was concluded with the National anthem.
