There is a lack of clarity from the Telangana government regarding the increase in fees in private engineering colleges.
FRC Fee Hike

The Admissions and Fees Regulatory Committee (TSFRC) said that the old fees will remain in force this year as well. But recently Telangana Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy said that the committee would look into the fee hike and said that no proposal to stop the fee hike in 2022 has come to the attention of the government. Due to this, there is confusion regarding the engineering colleges fees.

FRC reviews the fees of engineering and pharma colleges every three years. The fees hiked in 2019 are in effect till 2022. With this, the FRC has taken up the exercise on new fees from the academic year 2022-23. It has agreed in principle to increase the minimum fee from Rs.35 thousand to Rs.45 thousand and the maximum fee from Rs.1.40 lakh to Rs.1.73 lakh. However, the students' associations stated that they are not ready to bear the high fees as the financial conditions of the families have been damaged due to two years of Covid. FRC said that the old fees will continue for this year.

Private colleges are expressing their displeasure over the FRC's decision not to increase the fees. The owners are insisting that the fees should be increased every three years as per the rules. It is known that after introduction of computer science courses, the management cost has increased in the colleges. It is reported that an appeal has also been made to the government departments to this extent. On the other hand, it is known that some owners are ready to go to court if the government stops the increase in fees. In this background, there is a lack of clarity on the fees as the FRC is delaying the report.
